Moved to the burbs
We have finally settled in to our new home in Scarsdale. Yesterday we got our first big snowfall and we were able to test out the new sled Shane got from his cousins. I think he really enjoyed it because he started to fall asleep while we pulled him around the yard. Did not enjoy the cold snow on his hands as much. We will be headed to the Richmond Glover's for X-mas on Tuesday where we hear they might have 15 inches. Let's hope it's not a mess on the drive down.
October beach trip and Halloween in Richmond
Here are some old pics and videos of our trip we took in late October. Our friends Julie and Jon came with their son Nolan who is just a few days younger than Shane. The boys had a great time playing together, as did the adults. Halloween was fun too. Jason dressed as Dumbledore (a costume his Mom mom made when she dressed up at her school), and Shane, well - that's obvious. Every little boy is superman at least once in his life!

Video: Shane's Latest Accomplishment!
He is quite the daredevil, but balance is still terrible. This was a forced attempt by Jason to make him walk on his own. He leaned him on the ottoman with nowhere to go but toward the M&M's and guitar. It worked!!!

Video Part 5: Walking series finale.
***
***
START BELOW AT VIDEO 1 FOR THE WEEKS FULL PROGRESSION.
9/09/09-The moment we've been waiting for and were once told might not happen. Shane took his very first steps today during PT. We are beyond excited - just 2 weeks away from his second birthday. I was able to catch it on video the 2nd time around but the first was probably the best and longest of the day. When dad came home we practiced again and again. He knows what he is doing b/c he giggles when we let go of him. He has a long way before he's a free man but here is our best take of the evening.....

Video Part 4: And going....with a not so great ending.
09/06/09 - Here I take a turn for the worst. But balance and focus still on par. Video cuts right before the tears.
Video Part 3: Keep on going...
09/06/09 -Still going strong. I'm showing off for friends now. But can't seem to get the hang of the steering on this thing. I have a nasty left hook.
Video Part 2: The Walker, My new best friend. Or is it?
09/09/09 - So I continued walking this weekend at home with my walker that we've had for some time but would only try to chew when Mom and Dad pulled it out. Now I'm a pro but I was getting a little sick of putting on a show. Though mad, I still look very cute and maintain my new found skill!
Video Part 1: Taking off...
09/03/09 Just one month ago, in late July Shane began cruising. He has discovered all sorts of nooks and crannies in the apartment that he never knew existed. He never did experiment around the apartment much with crawling. This video was taken on September 3rd. It was the first time that Shane really used the walker on his own. Every week for several months they'd pull out the walker during therapy at the Rusk and he used to just yell until we were able to coax him to go a few feet which would take about 15 minutes. I guess he was just finally ready. And maybe the weighted pants they had him wear helped!!!

Some cookies should be eaten in the tub.
Shane recently learned how to hold a cookie and take bites. A big step for him. We are still working on portion control. And then there's the mess factor.

NC Beach Week '09.
Beach week was a blast. Shane did not seem to mind the sand too much and definitely loved getting in the pool every morning and afternoon, It ended up being a great stall tactic while trying to eliminate one nap from his schedule. In the end, the goal of getting him to sleep later has not yet kicked in. But it was nice having grandparents to take over the early morning hours so we could get a few extra hours in. Shane and Michael were best of buddies and Michael was a great entertainer for him. I could use a six year old every night at dinner time.Pit stop during our drive home. Get us outta here!!!
